For applicants

Do you have any questions about formalities or the safety assessment of your planned genetic engineering work?

Your responsible state authority will be happy to help you! Here [PDF, 357KB] you will find the authority responsible for your respective federal state and their contact person. The competent on-site staff will be happy to advise you on all questions relating to the risk assessment of organisms, the registration or approval of the construction or commissioning of genetic engineering facilities and the implementation of the requirements of the Genetic engineering safety reglations (GenTSV).

If necessary, the ZKBS, whose office is based at the Federal Office of Consumer Protection and Food Safety (BVL), is involved by the respective state authority. This is the case, for example, if the planned genetic engineering work cannot be compared with previous decisions by the ZKBS or if there is an increased risk potential (class 3 and 4).

Are you planning laboratory work in which no genetically modified organisms are used or produced?

Unfortunately, we are the wrong contact for you here. You can easily find the right contact person for your state here [PDF, 312KB]. The competent higher federal authority is then the Federal Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (BAuA).
